Get your documents right!
So finally you have decided to send your vehicle to your home country! It is always confusing to figure out what are the documents required and how to proceed with it. As everyone knows, Dubai has fixed rules and regulations for export and import of goods. In order to send your vehicle from Dubai to the location you are preferring, you need to go through certain procedures. Don’t worry we will simplify it for you!
The first and foremost step is to cancel the vehicle registration. You need to visit the nearby RTA (Road and Transport Authority) and hand in all required documents related to the cancellation and collect the export certificate. For getting all these documents, you need to have:
- Vehicle registration card (original)
- Passport & Emirates ID (Original and copies)
- Export Insurance Certificate
- Passport copy of the person receiving the car in the final location
- The car license plates
Once you are done with the first stage, make sure your car is registered. Otherwise you need to have an export vehicle test at the registered RTA testing centers. The officers will be checking the chassis number on the body of the car against the number on the engine to ensure the matching. It may inquire a charge for carrying out the test. If the vehicle is not in your name but in company’s name, you may also have to submit the trade license of the company.
In case of your car been brought via loan, you need to present the mortgage release letter, referring the complete payment of the loan/ final settlement of the outstanding amount. You need to show this final settlement to prove that the shipment is not happening before the complete payment of dues/ loan.
If you finish all these steps the next focus is on submitting the license plates. You need to present these on the concerned departments and pay off any outstanding fines. Once all these procedures are completed, your car registration would now be cancelled and will be receiving an export certificate. You may get temporary export plates for the emergency purposes for driving around UAE for 15 days. The cost for the certificate with the plate will be AED 90 and without plates will be AED 20.
The final phase is that of exporting your vehicle. We know that you were waiting to read this part! Once you are ready with all the papers and processes done, check for shipping agents who will take care of any documentation and procedures to export it to the desired destination. There will be pre decided fee for the agent regarding the service which may be inclusive of custom fee or taxes. Be careful before you choose the apt agent or service to ship your vehicle and make a thorough study regarding the policies and charges of the host country before exporting the car.
